It is a large hospital, the third largest teaching hospital in U.S.
A lot of specimens in pathology department and busy service. The program
director is a very nice lady and the associate program director is a Ph.D. who
runs microbiology lab.
The interview started with PD's short introduction about herself and her stories, such as where did she recieve her training, etc. Then every candidate was required
to stand up and introduce him/herself. Be sure you prepare a concise but interesting speech. Don't just talk about your education and training. For example, a candidate described her hometown
, which is very beautiful.
Then each candidate was interviewed by 4 faculty members, including PD, APD,
and two other faculties, depends on your background. Afterwards, we attended
noon conference and had lunch with residents, in the absence of faculty.
Residents are friendly and happy there.
They told me PD is very caring for residents and has done a wonderful job
to improve the program. The chief resident then gave the tour. At the end,
PD and APD came to meet us again to answer any additional questions.
When I interviewed with PD, she praised my English and mentioned they had
CMG earlier who had difficulty in communication. Therefore, good oral
english is also important for pathology applicant.
Also I want to point out that pathology is quite competative these days.
Only 2 out of 7 candidates interviewed that day are IMGs. Even the AMGs are
with master degree or rotated in the program before.
