11 Patients: all reasonable. one phone pt.
I was the last one to enter the room and mostly the first one coming out.
Before entering the room, I takes extra seconds to make sure what I should ask according to possible D.D. and wrote them down.
First case: finished before five minutes announcement made which was a
shock to me because I always used up 13 minutes when practicing with my huby.
Adjusted a little bit, finished the rest of cases 2-4 minutes before
For history taking, I just went with routine question flow and make sure
that I did not forget certain categories. My cases were not difficult. I
had the impression of the diagnosis and possible D.D. in mind after
finishing history taking for most cases.
Physics: For my first case, I only did one system without anything else
because of the urge of time control. Then on all the other cases I did one system plus auscultation of the heart. For my dizziness case with possible dehydration, I did not do neuro, but I checked his heart and pulse.
Consultation: I had two cases that I forget to consult on smoking cessation and healthy diet.
Pt Note: Handwriting. Nothing fancy but did not miss important points. On
one case, I only have three D.D. Most of the others four D.D.
I was not nervous during the test and reacted just like they were real pt
except for one who faked her pain so obvious that I can not help laughing.
But I concealed it by standing behind her and helped with her lying down. I had two pts who made me rephrase one or two of my questions.
Overall, the test is about your overall ability to handle and react with pt.
My performance is definitely not perfect: no detailed history taking, no
thorough physics. But I finished most major parts of every pt encounter and I can feel that pts were not annoyed by me. At least two pts actively
provided me with information that is critical for diagnose when I treated
It looks like that you do not need to be perfect to pass the exam but you do need to finish every parts of it.
Good luck to everyone!
