got it from a friend, originated from CSSS forum? not sure.

1.sprint is the largest wireless phone company, and AT&T is the second,
then the Verizon Wireless and Cingular. The largest means the largest
customer base, not necessarily the broadest network coverage. I am
currently using Sprint PCS, and so far it's been good. Seldom drop
calls and bad signals. But if you go under the ground or some shielded
place, like the lower level floor of a shopping mall or airport, you
won't be able to receive the signal. Also, in some places the signal
may be weak (e.g. in downtown columbus), so you need to consider your
mostly usage area. Another good thing about Sprint PCS is that
national long distance is included in every plan, which is not the
case for other providers. So when you look at a plan, check at least
the following specs:

1. Anytime minute (Nights & weekends usually more than
enough)
2. Long distance & Roaming charges (better be included
in the plan)
3. Length of contract (usually one year, sometimes two
years)

Some of my friends are with Cingular & VerizonWireless, and they think
they are not bad either.

For the handset, you don't need to buy the fancist one, unless you
want to stick to only one provider, since the handset comes with the
provider and you cannot change it if you change your mind after one or
two years' contract. Currently, many cell phones are free or even
profitable after rebate or service credit. You can get the information
of on-sale cell phone deals from the weekly circular of Circuit City,
Bestbuy, Staples, OfficeMax, HHGreg etc, which you can pick up in the
store or you can buy the Sunday's Columbus Dispatch to get it. Circuit
City usually has good deals on it, and this week too. Okay, so long,
good luck!

2.I really wouldn't recommend Sprint.  I used Sprint.  No doubt the
company provides good plans, but the problem is very poor reception.
I spent more than $100 on a cell phone, thinking that it will provide
me with better reception.  Not the case at all.  Once I was in a
restaurant with 2 friends, and all of us had Sprint as our cell phone
companies.  None of us were able to make a phone call. I then
switched to AT&T and it is a good choice. The only thing is that once
you go with a plan, try not to switch because once you do, they will
extend your contract for another year.  Another company you might want
to consider is Cingular.  I heard that they have the cheapest plan and
roll over minutes, but I am not sure how good the
reception is.  Jenny

3.  I have been using SPRINT PCS for over one year now and it's good.
You can go to amazon.com for cell phone deals but they usually come
with required plans from a certain company, such as verizon, T-mobil,
AT&T etc.  PCS is good because it has national long distance and in
most cities and highways in US, you can use it as a local phone.  You
are only charged with roaming when PCS doesn't have coverage at that
area and the service is provided by another contracted company.  This
is good because I go traveling pretty often.

Good luck.

4 Try Amazon.com to see if there is any promotion on cell phone. I got
last month for free.

I bought a sprint plan, $35/mon, 300 min peak time and 3200 off-peak
time.  I need it to domestic long-distance call (in US), the call
within limit is free.

Hi

I just bought a cell phone last month from AT&T. I think the quality
is very good and the carrier is reliable since it's the biggest one. I
didn't really compare it with SPRINT, I guess it should be
similar. What I purchased is $34.99 per month, 500 min any time and
3000 mins night and weekends, no roaming or long distance charge. Cell
phone itself is free, Nokia. I know they have a referral program, with
$25 credit bonus. If you are interested in sharing
this program, pls let me know by email.

Good luck!

If you are a student or staff of OSU, You can buy from
UNITs of osu and get cheaper price and no activation
fee. They sell Sprint and Cingular service plans.
I just bought a Sprint cell phone and a $34.99 service
plan (I need pay $32.99 per month) from UNITS. They
have free phones and discounted phones that you can
select. Besides of Sprint, I think Verizon wireless
also are good company. You can check their website for
plans. But if you buy from agents of Verizon wireless,

You can get better deal sometimes. Different agent has
different promotion.

Good luck

Hi, I like sprint a lot. There should be great sales on Amazon.com
now. Check it out.

8.
Hi,

I don't have the experience for different companies.  However I am
using Voicestream for 30.00 a month (200 min anytime, free
weekend). The cell phone was bought from Amazon.com at $50, we got
$170 rebate back. I have used for almost two month, the signal and
service are OK. Compared with local promotion, my suggestion is that
Amazon might have better deals for cell phones. Good luck!

9.

visit their website and locate an agent or store in your area.

:

Never heard about relationship between T-mobile and Verizon. They use
different network protocol(GSM v.s. CDMA). However, VoiceStream(T-Mobile)
has some coop with Cingular (trade of NY CA).

According to MSN, verizon has the best signal quality and best customer
satisfaction, also with the highest price per minute.Their American Choice
network is bigger than Sprint, because Verizon can use sprint network, while
sprint will not use Verizon's.

T-mobile(former Voice Stream) is the worst service provider. The MSN article
said they had really good resons to change their name: hide their past from
the customer.
